CLRI, one of the constituent National Laboratories under the umbrella of CSIR, is the largest R & D Institute of the world in the realm of Leather & allied field. It is a multi-disciplinary laboratory equipped with the state of the art equipments along with modern testing laboratory for leather, chemicals, shoe & shoe components and is engaged in both basic and applied research.

The Institute has, over the years, developed as well as commercialized number of Technologies in the areas of Leather Chemicals, Leather Processing, Waste Water Treatment, Tannery & Slaughter House By-products utilization etc. It offers a wide range of consultancy services in Leather Processing, Environmental Engineering, Leather Products Designing, Fashion Forecasting, Safety & Health Hazard Analysis, Preparation of Techno-Economic Feasibility Reports, Designing Leather Complexes and related areas. CLRI also offers wide ranging training programmes in Leather Processing, Product Designing / Manufacturing for various target groups.
